Traveling on a budget while making the most of each destination is an exhilarating challenge. My journey took me from Bangkok to Macau, Hong Kong, Jeju, and Singapore, filled with smooth transitions, breathtaking sights, and a bit of airport survival.

Bangkok to Macau: A Half-Day Exploration
I began my journey flying from Bangkok to Macau, eager to explore the city in just half a day. Despite the limited time, I managed to visit the Londoner, Parisian, and Venetian—three iconic casino resorts that replicate famous European landmarks with stunning architecture and lavish interiors.
After soaking in the opulent ambiance of these destinations, I took advantage of the free shuttle bus from the Venetian to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) Port. The immigration process went smoothly, and I hopped on a bus crossing the world’s longest sea bridge. The journey across the bridge was a surreal experience, with vast ocean views stretching endlessly. Before I knew it, I had arrived in Hong Kong.
A Night at Hong Kong International Airport

With no time to book a hostel, I decided to spend the night at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). Fortunately, the airport was well-equipped with shops, dining options, and money exchange facilities. I stored my bag at the airport’s luggage storage before heading to the city for a quick exploration.
My main stop was Ngong Ping Village and the Big Buddha. Taking the bus, I enjoyed the scenic ride leading up to this spiritual and cultural landmark. The Big Buddha (Tian Tan Buddha) was majestic, offering panoramic views of the lush surroundings.
While having lunch at a 7-Eleven store, I met a fellow woman traveler around my age. She was from Busan, South Korea, and we instantly connected over our shared love for travel. As we talked, we even made plans to travel together in Malaysia in the future.
Off to Jeju: A Winter Wonderland Experience

The next day, I boarded my flight to Jeju, South Korea—an exciting destination, especially because I would see snow for the first time!
In Jeju, my first adventure was hiking Mt. Hallasan, South Korea’s highest peak, which was beautifully covered in snow. The sight was breathtaking, and experiencing snowfall added a magical touch to my journey.
Other must-visit attractions on my list included:
Jusangjeolli Cliff – a fascinating volcanic rock formation along the coast.
Cheonjeyeon Falls – a serene waterfall surrounded by lush greenery.
Osulloc Tea Museum – where I learned about Korean tea culture and enjoyed a soothing cup of tea.
Aewol Cafe Street & Handam Beach – a picturesque coastal area perfect for a relaxing afternoon.
I quenched my thirst with fresh Korean orange juice, a local specialty, and enjoyed a delicious lunch before heading to Yesjun Guesthouse Hostel for a much-needed rest and shower.

The next morning, I caught my flight to Singapore.
Surviving 11 Days at Changi Airport, Singapore

I landed in Singapore on February 17, 2025, but due to unexpected cancellations of my booked hostel, I found myself spending 11 nights at Changi Airport. Surprisingly, the airport was comfortable, and I managed to shop, dine, and explore its many facilities daily.
A heartwarming moment happened when I met my Singaporean “grandma and grandpa”—an elderly couple who, for no reason, kindly gave me money so I could shop for more food while staying at the airport. Their generosity truly touched me and made my stay more comfortable.
For essentials, I adapted by:
Doing laundry at Wonder Wash – a self-service laundromat.
Taking free showers at Our Tampines Hub – a lifesaver after long days.
Despite the unusual accommodation situation, I made the most of my time until my flight back home to Davao on February 27.
Final Thoughts
This whirlwind adventure across multiple countries was a testament to the spontaneity and resilience needed for budget travel. From lavish casinos in Macau to the serene temples of Hong Kong, from snowy Jeju landscapes to the modern comforts of Changi Airport, every experience added a unique chapter to my journey.
Would I do it all over again? Absolutely!
